Breastfeeding provides your baby with the perfect nutrition and healthy antibodies. Breastfeeding is a perfect time for both of you to bond. Not only is it healthier to breastfeed, it’s cheaper and time saver. You may notice that there are many positions for breastfeeding. But finding the right one is not easy enough though it’s not as hard as finding a needle in hays. Some babies have an instinct and take to the breast with ease, while others take a little more coaxing.
Position is all matters in breastfeeding. Always make sure that baby’s mouth entirely surrounds mother’s nipple. If baby is not positioned correctly on mother’s breast, her breast will become sore and tender. Breastfeeding will become more of a challenge.
Below are some breastfeeding positions for your baby:
• The Football Cradle
Cradle baby’s head at your breast in your arm with the feet going under your arm and towards your back. This is absolutely the best breastfeeding position for new moms getting used to nursing as it cuts down on the tenderness you’ll feel in the beginning. This is also a great breastfeeding position for women with larger breasts. Make sure you are switching the baby from one breast to another to ensure your milk flow continues in each breast.
• The Cradle Hold
This is a classic nursing breastfeeding position. Simply cradle the baby in your arms as you normally would when holding her and allow her to nurse this way. Once again you’re going to want to use pillows to support your arm and the baby. This method is ideal for women with normal sized breasts.
• The Cross-Cradle Hold
This breastfeeding position is similar to the cradle hold except for the position of your hands. If you’re nursing from the left breast, instead of baby’s head resting in the crook of your left arm.
• The Laying Down
The breastfeeding position is going to be the easiest for you in the middle of the night. Most women can feed their babies this way and go back to sleep as they are doing so. You want to lie on your side and hold your baby in the arm closest to the bed or couch. Use your other hand to direct the breast to the baby’s mouth. This position is also great for fussy babies because you can rub their back or pat their bottom with your free hand.
Each baby will have his favorite breastfeeding position and it takes some time to discover exactly how each baby prefers to be fed. Some babies have an instinct and take to the breast with ease, while others take a little more coaxing. So, there is no perfect way to breastfeed. Every mother has their own way of making their baby and themselves comfortable. The key to successful breastfeeding is to be persistent and keep trying. You get your baby in the right spot and not only will he eat and grow, you will also develop a lifelong bond with your child. Well, have a nice breastfeeding then!
