Is
it
true
that
breastfeeding
could
prevent
pregnancy?
Let’s
find
out
whether
it
is a
myth
or a
fact.
Breastfeeding
is
the
best
nourishment
a
newborn
baby
could
have.
Breast
milk
provides
a
lot
of
vitamins
and
minerals
that
help
with
the
baby’s
immune
system
to
fight
off
diseases.
Here
are
some
myths
related
to
breastfeeding:
·
Myth:
If
newborns
feed
often,
they
are
not
getting
enough
milk.
Fact:
Wrong.
Breast
milk
is
easier
to
digest
than
baby
formula.
So
babies
get
hungry
faster.
·
Myth:
Getting
a
rest
from
nursing
help
the
mother
to
produce
more
milk.
Fact:
Wrong.
The
more
you
breastfeed,
the
more
milk
you
can
produce.
·
Myth:
Bottle
feeding
can
make
babies
sleep
better.
Fact:
Wrong.
Babies
who
breastfeed
sleep
better.
·
Myth:
Breastfeed
babies
should
not
take
an
occasional
bottle
or
they
may
become
could
become
confused.
Fact:
Right.
Because
babies
are
in
tuned
with
the
sucking
motion.
So,
babies
will
not
get
confuse.
·
Myth:
Never
wake
a
sleeping
baby
to
breast
feed.
Fact:
Wrong.
Most
of
the
time
the
baby
will
wake
up
on
its
own.
In
fact,
breastfeeding
does
not
prevent
pregnancy
but
it
merely
delays
it.
If
you
want
to
delay
your
pregnancy,
you
must
be
committed
to
breastfeeding
your
child
for
at
least
six
months
and
some
tips
below:
·
You
must
begin
breastfeeding
as
soon
as
possible
after
delivery.
·
You
must
breastfeed
exclusively
or
almost
exclusively
(85%
of
feeds).
· You
must
breastfeed
between
six
and
ten
times
a
day,
upon
request.
·
You
must
avoid
long
intervals
between
feeds.
·
You
must
avoid
the
use
of
bottles
and
pacifiers.
·
You
are
not
allowed
to
give
any
supplemental
food
or
liquids
to
your
baby
(such
as
juice
or
water).
Unfortunately,
the
length
of
time
between
giving
birth
and
resumption
of
menstruation
is
different
for
every
woman.
The
fact
that
ovulation
comes
before
menstruation.
It
means
a
woman
will
be
susceptible
to
getting
pregnant
before
she
knows
she
is
again
fertile.
This
is
why
some
form
or
protection
is
very
important
while
you
breastfeed.
So,
what
should
you
do
then
to
make
sure
that
you
will
not
get
pregnant
while
breastfeeding?
If
you
want
to
be
absolutely
certain
that
you
do
not
become
pregnant,
talk
to
your
doctor
about
using
two
forms
of
birth
control.
Your
doctor
can
tell
you
of
protection
that
will
work
best
for
you
and
with
your
breastfeeding.
There
are
many
birth
control
options
that
you
should
feel
free
to
discuss
with
your
health
care
provider.
So,
you
may
find
one
that
fits
you
and
your
partner.
